I grew up on a farm in Monona County in Western Iowa, and attended The University of Iowa, receiving a BA in History in 1973. I then attended The University of Iowa PA Program, graduating in 1976. In 1991, I received a master of public administration degree from Golden Gate University in San Francisco, California.
I have extensive clinical experience in family practice and rural health, working in public clinics, private practices, family practice residency programs, National Public Health Service clinics, and public health clinics. I was on the faculty of the University of California at Davis PA Program for seven years, and for two years was associated with the Stanford University PA Program.
This fall I will begin my 13th year as the Assistant Director of The University of Iowa PA Program. My wife, Elizabeth, is a clinical psychologist, and we have five children. I enjoy reading, outdoor activities, and playing stringed instruments.
