I had the privilege of growing up on a dairy farm in a small farming community in southeastern Minnesota (West Concord) with my parents and three brothers. After high school I attended Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota, and graduated with a biology degree, and chemistry and psychology minors. After taking one year off, I attended The University of Iowa PA Program. Upon graduation, I began working at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in the Department of Pediatric Cardiology. In June of 1990, I began as the Assistant Director of the PA Program and became Program Director in July of 1997. I have continued to stay clinically active by working in Emergency Medicine (4 years) and currently in Pediatric Cardiology. I completed a Master’s Degree in Education and a Ph.D. in Higher Education, Planning Policy & Leadership Studies.
My wife's name is Jill; she is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, and we have three children; Laura, Nolan and Caleb. I enjoy sports and spend my spare time playing (or watching) golf, basketball, football, baseball, etc. I have recently become interested in glaciated mountain climbing and have had the opportunity to complete a few climbs in the North Cascades in recent years.
