There is an exciting opportunity for highly-motivated physician assistants and/or nurse practitioners with a strong interest in critical care in the Division of Trauma, Critical Care, and General Surgery at the Mayo Clinic. We are currently looking to expand our staff of mid-level practitioners, and are seeking top-notch, energetic, dedicated professionals to join our team. We acknowledge that the transition from the academic setting to the critical care environment can be very challenging, and therefore have designed an extensive orientation program (approximately equivalent to critical care residency). New staff will be partnered with board-certified critical care surgeons and fellowship-trained mid-level practitioners to manage both trauma and general surgery adult ICU patients. They will be expected to work 50-70 hours per week for the first 12 months to allow for adequate educational experiences. Topics covered during this orientation period include not only in-depth systems-based anatomic and physiologic management, but also areas such as educational theory and research. Our goal is to develop highly-trained professionals who will contribute to our division as not only superior clinicians, but also as superior educators, leaders, and partners in research. At the completion of this orientation program, a certificate of completion will be conferred, and commensurately the hours will drop to a rotating schedule of approximately 42 hours per week. Mayo Clinic was again named one of Fortune magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work For" in 2009, and offers an excellent salary and benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision benefits, in addition to a generous CME allowance. We will be hiring in at least 2 distinct phases with the first group anticipated to start on or about July 1, 2009.
